FB mobile apps

Is it just me or Facebook splitting features to different apps (which forces you to install a new separate app with a new set of permissions and possibly a new license agreement which I seldom read) is annoying?

Software errors impact... divorces

Today I mentored some news guys into the company. The topic was software testing and the impact of software faults (which could be disastrous since software is everywhere nowadays). But I never thought of this impact:

Reversed Function Keys on Microsoft Surface Pro?

Ever found yourself with locked (reversed) Function keys on your Microsoft Surface Pro (or on your laptop)? I mean, if you want to rename a file in Windows Explorer, you highlight the file and press F2 but only the keyboard brightness is changed (normally this happens on the Surface if you press Fn + F2). While in this state, you press Fn + F2 and the file rename then occurs (!).
The main problem to me is that there is one more key to be pressed (and worst of all, it will have to be pressed with the right hand in the Surface Pro).

To revert to "normal" behaviour it's as simple as this: Press "Fn" + "Caps Lock" key simultaneously. For most programs F1 will start opening help (again), F2 will start renaming, F3 searching and so on.

This will work at least on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

Delay mail delivery

Useful features for mail users (are you a mail user? You should be working instead of sending e-mails):

Gmail started recently to allow cancelling an email after sending it. Look for this setting under the gmail options.

Microsoft Exhange users can also do it (on every client platform). I was able to configure my Samsung Galaxy Notes 2 (with the default Android installation and mail client, working with my Corporate e-mail server) to delay mail delivery for a few seconds.

This is enough for you to review the last sentences of the email or remember that the attachment is missing, or that an email recipient is missing (etc.).

In fact they will not cancel email sending, they will just defer for a few seconds the delivery of the email to your server. Simple but effective.

Both work by displaying a message like "press this to cancel send" that auto-dismisses itself after the defined time interval elapses.

You'll never send incomplete emails again in your life.

Worried about privacy?

Worried about privacy? If you're not then you should. It's not about what we share about ourselves (which we can control), it's about what anyone (or any governmental agency) could want to discover with more or less right to do so.

PC Mag is doing some reviews on products for the worried ones. One interesting can be found here.
