Munich leaves Open Source and goes to...

... windows:
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/11/13/munich_committee_says_all_windows_2020/

Quoting:
"Matthias Kirschner, president of Free Software Foundation Europe in Berlin, said "there were never any studies" pinpointing what people were "unhappy" about. It might have been the LiMux client itself, or perhaps the migration process or lack of support.

He said he was also not aware of a comparison of the unhappiness of staffers in cities using Windows.

report (PDF) by Microsoft partner Accenture commissioned by Munich found the most important issues were organisational."

Security: Infected DNA?

Well, sort of. It's DNA who tries to exploit a known security flaw in DNA processing software:

Internet neutrality - what's it all about?

http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2017-07-13/net-neutrality-internet-wide-day-of-action/8704072

Quoting:
"Key Points:

- Net neutrality is a principle that says all data on the internet is equal
- Trump-appointed FCC chairman wants to wind back Obama-era protections
- Companies like Facebook, Google, Amazon joined action to support net neutrality."
(...)
"It's a broad principle that says all data on the internet should be treated equally. Your personal blog, for example, should be given the same access to the internet as a major international news website.

It's supposed to stop internet service providers selling a "fast lane" version of the internet to big companies and relegating your personal blog to the "slow lane" unless you pay up.

It was bit of an unspoken agreement on the internet, but the Obama administration made it an official rule in 2015."

Internet archives and caches - some ideas for going back in time

When links are broken (for PDFs, ISOs, installers) you can try to look for and use the cached version by Google (on the drop-down menu to the left of the link there is a "Cached" menu entry). That is why it is said: "Once in the Internet, forever in the Internet".

For HTML sites, there's a way to "travel back in time".
For example to see several home pages of CNN, or PCMagazine you can use the Internet Archive site (that contains a slider that allows you to choose the date):

Powerful, useful and interesting, ain't it?

The sociometric devices "trend" in the workplace

I've used these ones to track my walking and my sleep. Personally. But using these in the workplace (even if your boss says it is optional) is a completely different thing. There are devices to track movement, conversations, sleep, ... Big Brother is coming:
